In a proactive response to the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference, China has pledged to adopt effective measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with 2005 levels and to increase the proportion of renewable energy consumption to that of primary energy to about 15 percent. The development of green economy, specifically clean energy will play an increasingly important role in China’s and world’s development in the post-Copenhagen era. Under this backdrop, the New Ventures China 2010 forum will focus on the issues of climate change and clean energy. To mark the tenth anniversary of New Ventures Global Program, the theme for this year’s forum is “Roadmap to clean energy, answers from SMEs”, which will address the great potential of the clean energy sector valued in at US$6,000 billion.

Co-organized by World Resources Institute, Institute for Environment and Development and National Business Daily, the forum will feature outstanding small and medium Chinese enterprises in the clean energy and energy- efficiency sectors to demonstrate their business and investment value. The companies will also engage with leaders from the environment, businesses and investor communities to demonstrate how their firms can contribute to China’s sustainable economic development.

Leading thinkers and practitioners of sustainable development will also be invited to deliver the keynote speeches. The speakers will highlight how clean energy can lead the economic development of China and entire world and gradually become the dominant source of energy

China’s large geographic size and fast-developing pace makes a difficult mission for a public interest initiative like the New Ventures China Program to draw a comprehensive picture of China’s development. Therefore, the goal of our annual forum is to serve as a platform for SMEs to present emerging potential technologies, models and ideas with the expectation that these firms will become one of the important drivers for a new era of sound and orderly development of the global economy.
